How should I store Novasource Renal formula unopened and once opened?

Novasource Renal formula may be stored unopened at room temperature. It is best when served chilled. Do not freeze. Remember to shake well before opening. Just pull the tab to pour into a container or insert a straw. Once opened, unused portions should be tightly covered, kept in the refrigerator, and used within 24 hours.

Is Novasource Renal formula appropriate for a pre-dialysis diet?

Pre-dialysis patients often need to restrict protein in their diet. Once patients are on dialysis, they need to have a higher protein diet to replace the protein that is often filtered out during the dialysis treatment. You should ask your doctor or Registered Dietitian for their opinion on the benefits of adding Novasource Renal formula to your kidney diet.

Who should not drink Novasource Renal Formula?

Novasource Renal formula is not appropriate if you are not on dialysis and are on a low protein diet to try to delay dialysis. Novasource Renal formula is not appropriate if you have an allergy to milk protein or soy protein. It is also not appropriate if you are eating well, do not need to gain weight, and your albumin (blood protein) is within the normal range, and you are not at risk for malnutrition. Novasource Renal formula is formulated for adults, 13 years and older unless approved by a health care professional with expertise in renal disease (i.e. nephrologist or renal dietitian)
