Silvercel Antimicrobial Alginate Dressing Features

  • Alginate Dressing forms a gel on contact with exudate, making the dressing suitable for minor bleeding wounds and infected wounds
  • Minimizes the leakage and risk of maceration
  • Proven to absorb and retain fluid even under compression
  • Designed not to break up in the wound
  • Maintains strength within a moist wound environment

How Silvercel Antimicrobial Dressing Works?

  • Silvercel Antimicrobial Dressing provides effective antimicrobial protection along with promoting a favorable moist wound environment. Unique composition of dressing combines the moisture management properties of alginate and CMC with the broad-spectrum antimicrobial action of silver ions within the dressing.
  • Antimicrobial action: Silvercel Antimicrobial Dressing provides a sustained release of silver ions within itself for more than 7 days. This provides an effective antimicrobial protection for the entire wear time, depending on the level of exudate. Systagenix dressing is effective against more than 150 wound pathogens, including MRSE, MRSA, VRE, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Streptococcus pyogenes, Escherichia Coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae and Candida albicans.
  • High Absorbency: Unique composition of the dressing manages exudate in moderate-to-heavily exuding wounds. This promotes an optimal healing environment for effective wound management. It provides excellent fluid handling capacity even under compression.
  • Tensile strength: Tensile strength of the dressing increases by 56% when in contact with wound exudate as compared to dry, allowing for intact removal.

What to buy with Systagenix Alginate Dressing?

How to use Silvercel Antimicrobial Dressing?

Site Preparation:

  • Debride when necessary and irrigate the wound site in accordance with standard protocols
  • Remove excess solution from surrounding skin

Alginate Dressing Selection:

  • Select a size of SILVERCEL Dressing that is slightly larger than the wound.

Systagenix Dressing Application:

  • Cut (using clean scissors) or fold the dressing to fit the wound
  • Loosely pack deep wounds, ensuring the dressing does not overlap the wound margins.
  • For heavily exuding wounds, apply to wound bed directly. For wounds with minimal exudate, apply to saline moistened wound bed.
  • Cover and secure SILVERCEL Dressing with a non-occlusive secondary dressing

How to Change Silvercel Antimicrobial Alginate Dressing?

  • Dressing change frequency will depend on patient condition and the level of exudate. Initially it may be necessary to change the dressing every 24 hours.
  • Reapply SILVERCEL Dressing when the secondary dressing has reached its absorbent capacity or whenever good wound care practice dictates that the dressing should be changed.
  • Gently remove the secondary dressing.
  • If the wound appears dry, saturate the dressing with normal saline solution prior to removal. Gently remove the dressing from the wound bed and discard.
  • Irrigate the wound site with a suitable wound cleanser prior to application of a new dressing.

When to use Silvercel Alginate Dressing?

  • Pressure injuries
  • Venous ulcers
  • Diabetic ulcers
  • Donor sites
  • Traumatic and surgical wounds

Silvercel Antimicrobial Alginate Dressing is indicated for external use only.

Contra-indications:

  • Third-degree burns
  • Patients with a known sensitivity to alginates or silver
  • To control heavy bleeding

Precautions

  • The dressing may adhere if used on very lightly exuding wounds. If the dressing is not easily removed, moisten it with sterile saline prior to removal. The dressing performance may be impaired by excess use of petrolatum-based ointments.
  • Avoid contact with electrodes or conductive gels during electronic measurements, e.g. electrocardiograms (ECG) and electroencephalograms (EEG). Do not use dressing on patients undergoing Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI).
  • Clinicians/Healthcare Professionals should be aware that there are very limited data on prolonged and repeated use of silver containing dressings, particularly in children and neonates.
