What to buy with McKesson Sterile Disposable Suture Removal Kit

How to use Mckesson Suture Removal Tool?

To remove a plain, interrupted suture:

  • Gently grasp the knot with forceps and raise it slightly.
  • Place the curved tip of the suture scissors directly under the knot or on the side, close to the skin.
  • Gently cut the suture and pull it out with the forceps.
    • Make sure you remove all suture material and place the suture on clean gauze.
    • Remove alternate sutures. Assess the wound for dehiscence; remove the remaining sutures if none occur.

To remove staples:

  • Place the lower jaw of the remover under a staple.
  • Squeeze the handles completely to close the device.
  • This bends the staple in the middle and pulls the edges out of the skin.
    • Gently move the staple away from the incision site when both ends are visible. Hold the staple remover over a sharps container, relax pressure on the handles, and let the staple drop into the container to dispose of.
    • Remove alternate staples. Assess the wound for dehiscence; remove the remaining staples if none occur.
