When to use Extension Finger Splint?

• For helping correct boutonniere deformity, flexion contractures and PIP joint tightness

How to wear a Finger Splint?

• Proximal pad has a “P” written on it
• Hold the proximal pad and distal pad, and then gently slide the Finger Splint onto the finger
• Position the proximal pad on the volar aspect of the MCP head
• Distal pad should rest at or proximal to the DIP joint, and the dorsal pad should be proximal to the PIP joint
• To increase the force of extension, with the Rolyan Finger Splint off the finger apply pressure to the volar pads, so that they bend away from each other, flattening the splint
  
  
   
• To decrease the force of extension, with the splint off the finger squeeze the two volar pads together under the dorsal pad
  
  
   
• Width of the splint can be increased by laterally stretching the wires
• Do not attempt to make major modifications in the splint, instead, use a different size

Contraindications:

• Not for fixed bony contractures resulting from extrinsic tendon tightening or other structural changes
• Not for joints suffering from medial or lateral instability
