How to use Cath-Lean Female Intermittent Catheter Kit?

1. First verify the French size the French size is the diameter of the catheter the Kathleen comes in 12 or 14 French
2. Prior to catheterization you always want to wash your hands.
3. Unfold the Kathleen catheter and gently pry off the blue cap.
4. Make sure the catheter is within the introducer tip but not exceeding past the tip.
5. Place the Kathleen down on your sterile field. Now transition over to your patient with your non-dominant hand spread the labia using the two fingers. Once the labia has been spread the hand will remain in this place until the catheterization is complete.
6. With your dominant hand pick up a wipe and in a downward motion move to the left and disregard your wipe.
7. Pick up your second wipe, move downward to the right, discard your wipe while still holding the labia apart. Grasp the catheter with your dominant hand and position like so with a bag in a parallel position to your leg.
8. The bag held in this position will prevent leakage during drainage.
9. Insert the introducer tip and catheter into the urethra.
10. When inserted begin to advance the catheter at 1 inch at a time. With a few advancements you will begin to see urine drain into the bag.
11. Advance the catheter one more short push to Center the catheter within the bladder.
12. Continue holding the bag and catheter until urine drainage is complete.
13. Once you see no more fluid draining pull the catheter out about an inch to see if any residual fluid will drain.

When voiding is complete, and the catheter has been removed from the body, here is a tip to easily empty the bag:

• With one hand, grasp the firm plastic tube, at the top of the bag, and hold the bag upright, so the urine collects at the bottom of the bag
• With your other hand, use the gauze pad provided, or a tissue, and hold the tip-eye holes end of the catheter. The gauze or tissue should be used to cover the eye holes
• While continuing to hold the bag with one hand, extend the catheter to the top of the bag. When the flared end of the catheter reaches the firm plastic tube it will catch
• Now, give a slight tug on the catheter and the tube, EZ-Advancer valve and introducer tip will be removed from the bag and you can pour the urine into the toilet
