• Product characteristics:
  - Fat: Fat provides 11% of total calories in PFD 2. The fat source is soy oil. Soy oil is a source of essential omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids: linoleic acid and alpha-linolenic acid; 100 g of PFD 2 provides approximately 2.5 g of linoleic acid and 320 mg of alpha-linolenic acid.
  - Protein: PFD 2 does not contain protein or protein-building amino acids. Appropriate amino acid mixtures or other sources of protein must be supplied when feedings are prepared to make the product nutritionally complete. Mead Johnson Nutrition does not supply amino acid mixtures for use with PFD 2.
  - Carbohydrate: Carbohydrate provides 89% of total calories in PFD 2. The carbohydrate blend is 86% corn syrup solids, 11% sucrose (table sugar), and 3% modified corn starch. The sucrose in the product helps improve the taste when amino acids from other sources are added. PFD 2 is lactose-free.
  - Vitamins and Minerals: Vitamins and mineral levels in PFD 2 meet U.S. Food and Drug Administration requirements per 100 Calories for vitamins and minerals as mandated by the U.S. Infant Formula Act and the associated Code of Federal Regulations 21 C.F.R. part 107.1 Amounts of B vitamins have been increased above levels in routine infant formula for cofactor production. Calcium, iron, zinc, manganese, and copper levels are higher in order to help meet the needs for these minerals when low-protein solid foods are introduced.
• Ingredients:
  - Corn syrup solids, sugar, soy oil, modified corn starch, calcium phosphate, and less than 1% sodium citrate, magnesium phosphate, potassium chloride, sodium phosphate, potassium citrate, choline chloride, L-carnitine, ascorbic acid, inositol, taurine, niacinamide, vitamin E acetate, potassium iodide, vitamin A palmitate, calcium pantothenate, biotin, vitamin K1, vitamin B12, thiamin hydrochloride, vitamin B6 hydrochloride, riboflavin, vitamin D3, folic acid, zinc sulfate, chromic chloride, sodium selenite, cupric sulfate, manganese sulfate, sodium molybdate, ferrous sulfate, ethyl vanillin.
• Preparation of feedings:
  - Consult with patients about the correct amounts of water and powder. The patient's health depends on carefully following these directions.
  - Pour the desired amount of water into a suitable container. Add powder and mix well. Consume immediately or cover and refrigerate the prepared beverage. Use within 48 hours. Shake well before serving.
  - Throw away prepared unrefrigerated beverages left in a cup within 1 hour after consumption begins.
  - Store unopened cans at room temperature. After opening the can, keep tightly covered, store it in a dry area, and use the contents within 1 month. Do not freeze powder or prepared formula. Avoid excessive heat. Use by date on can end.
  - Scoop: A packed level scoop contains approximately 15.6 g of powder.
• Caution:
  - PFD 2 is nutritionally incomplete. Care must be taken to provide enough protein to support growth, using other foods with protein as required. The physician must carefully and constantly supervise the use of PFD 2 with other foods and adjust the diet based on frequent blood tests.
