How to use Mckesson Self Seal Sterilization Pouches?
- Insert item(s) and a chemical indicator strip into the open end of the sterilization pouch
- Peel off paper strip located above perforation to expose adhesive and fold along perforation
- Press firmly to seal the paper to the plastic making certain that the seal is secure by running fingers back and forth over the entire sealing area
- Place the pouch in the sterilizer according to the sterilizer manufacturer’s instructions
- After sterilization, inspect the pouch to confirm the indicators have changed to the appropriate color and that the pouch is dry
- Store processed pouches at room temperature in a clean, dry location. The shelf life of a properly processed pouch is event related and dependent upon proper handling and storage. Do not use pouches that become wet, damaged or opened
- To open, pull apart the end seals at the thumb notch and then grasp the film with one hand and the paper with the other hand. Using a knuckle roll, carefully open the pouch by peeling down until the item(s) can be aseptically retrieved
SPECIAL NOTE: For additional sterility assurance, a biological indicator (spore test) should be routinely used to verify sterilizer performance.
