McKesson collagen dressings with silver are comprised of silver chloride, sodium alginate, carboxylmethylcellulose (CMC), and collagen. When in contact with wound exudates, the topically placed wound dressing will change into a soft gel sheet. The dressing keeps the wound surface wet, which promotes the growth of granulation tissue and epithelialization. The dressing's EDTA eliminates zinc to prevent matrix metalloproteinases (MMP) from working, which creates an environment that is conducive to wound healing.
