McKesson Calcium Alginate Dressing Features

• Contains by weight, 5% Silver Sodium Hydrogen Zirconium Phosphate
• A secondary dressing is needed to hold alginates in place and to protect the wound from outside contaminants
• Can be used to fill or pack the dead space in a wound
• Helps absorb moderate to heavy amounts of wound exudate and may help control minor bleeding
• Optimal gelling profile allows the dressing to avoid sticking to the wound bed

How to use McKesson Antimicrobial Silver Alginate Dressing?

1. Cleanse and debride the wound area as necessary and remove excess solution from the surrounding skin. Select a size of dressing that is slightly larger than the wound. Dressing can be trimmed to fit. (using sterile scissors).

 

2. Place dressing directly on the wound bed. For deeper wounds, loosely pack dressing into the wound. Make sure the dressing does not overlap wound margins.

 

3. Use the appropriate secondary dressing to cover the primary dressing, based on the amount of drainage and frequency of dressing change. See package insert of secondary cover dressing for complete instructions for use.

When to Use McKesson Calcium Alginate Dressing?

Effective barrier to bacterial penetration in moderate to heavily exuding wounds such as

• Diabetic foot ulcers
• Leg ulcers
• Pressure ulcers
• Partial and full-thickness wounds
• Donor sites
• Traumatic and surgical wounds

Contraindications

• Third-degree burns, patients with a known sensitivity to alginates or silver and controlling of heavy bleeding.
• Should not be used with products that create an ionic exchange in the wound site, i.e., do not use with enzymatic debriding agent

Change Frequency

• May be left in place for up to seven days. Change dressing as directed by a healthcare professional
