    Models 9820-Small and 9821-Medium Slim:
    - Have 3 components: 1 body vest, 4 compression straps, and 4 strap pads
    - Fits between the legs like pants and buckle up each side
    - Most comfortable for children under 60lb
    Models 9822-Medium and 9824-Large:
    - Have four components: 1 body vest, 4 compression straps, 4 strap pads and 2 thigh cuffs
    - Depend on the compression of the vest and the thigh straps to hold the vest in place
    - Vests buckle up the front and back
    - Do not have any component between the legs

How to use Kaye Suspension Conversion Kits for Posture Control Walkers?

The Kaye Suspension Kit Walkers Accessory for Posture Control Walker is designed as a reverse or posterior walker, where the user faces away from the rear bars and towards the open end of the walker. These walkers are designed to facilitate postural alignment, balance, and components of gait through the following means (as compared to traditional, forward walkers):

  1. The support behind the user encourages a more upright posture.
  2. The handgrips beside the user encourage improved upper extremity position.
  3. The centering of the user within the walker and over his own feet encourages the development of balance.
  4. The rear horizontal bars encourage the user to step forward as he moves the walker forward.
  5. Pulling the walker helps eliminate the abnormal two-footed stance when a user must stop and move the walker further to their front

How to care and maintain the Suspension Conversion Kit for Posture Control Walkers?


  1. Inspect the walker regularly.
  2. Tighten the nuts and bolts as necessary.
  3. If a product needs service or spare parts, contact Kaye Products, Inc. or the dealer from whom you purchased the item.
  4. If a problem is discovered that may impact the product’s function, immediately cease use and contact Kaye Products, Inc.
  5. he wheels and crutch tips will wear and should be replaced as needed.
  6. The ratchet or brake mechanisms on the rear wheels will wear and should be replaced, as needed, in order to maintain the rearbraking feature. Dirt, trash, or ice build-up on the ratchet mechanisms may prevent them from functioning.
  7. If your walker has the rear wheels with silent, one-way bearings, care should be taken to avoid exposing these bearings to salt or salt water.
  8. Use water and, if needed, soap to clean the walker.
  9. Avoid any undue stress to the walker while using, storing, or transporting it.

Kaye Suspension Easy Walk Harness useage tips

  • It is recommended that the client dons the vest in a supine or standing position as a key to a well-fitted harness depends on the hips being in extension and the vest fitted low around the pelvis. In addition, the lower buckles around the pelvis must be pulled tight to keep the vest in place when the client is suspended.
  • Clothing under the vest should not be bulky and cause uncomfortable wrinkles nor slippery material that will cause the vest to slide up as the client walks.
  • The four compression straps can be added to aid alignment and have been found useful in many ways to align the trunk, head, and hips. The strap pads are added once the client is suspended to protect the head from the hardware on the suspension system.

How to use Kaye Suspension Walkers Harness


For Small Harness (Model 9820) & Medium-Slim Harness (Model 9821)

Instructions for Donning & Using Child Harness


  1. Unfasten the buckles on each side of the vest (NOTE: 9820 has 3 buckles, and 9821 has 4 buckles). The two panels are identical-there is no front or back
  2. Fasten each of the buckles (NOTE: 9820 has 3 buckles and 9821 has 4 buckles) in each side of the vest, pulling evenly on each side so that the vest is positioned symmetrically around the child
  3. The vest material can be stretched while fastening, giving some degree of compression around the child;s body
  4. Tighten each buckle by pulling on the webbing. lt is important for the vest to fit snugly around the pelvis & trunk, as this assists with alignment and postural control. Pull these buckles tight so that you can fit only one finger under the side of the vest & the hip
  5. Note: if the buckles or webbing are uncomfortable around the child;s hips, two compression straps or a piece of foam can be added under the harness for extra padding
  6. Adjusthe shoulder straps, so they fit comfortably, yet snugly, over the child;s shoulders. To make certain these straps stay on the child;s shoulders, Velcro is stitched around the top of the harness. Place the straps under this Velcro and align the straps on the child;s shoulders. Once the child is placed in the Kaye Partial Weight-Bearing Walking Frame, these straps can be tightened with the buckles on the front & back of the harness (at pelvic level), taking up any slack. Compensation for the child;s trunk;s flexible asymmetry is made by adjusting each shoulder strap separately, pulling up on either front or back as needed. The plastic slide on each shoulder snap prevents the shoulder strap from readjusting itself
  7. lf you are attaching the harness to any suspension kit (SCl,2,3,4) & Kaye Posture ControlWalker, you will most likely need to change the shoulder straps to the longer ones that are packaged with the Suspension Conversion Kits. Notice that you need to add the male end of the buckle to these longe straps. Instructions to change the buckles are packaged with these straps
  8. Add the strap pads around the hardware that attaches the shoulder straps to the frame. These pads protect the child;s face & head from the hardware & they are an important part of the system. Pads can be placed around the shoulder strap webbing if padding is needed over the collarbone
  9. Final adjustments of the tightness around the body and the length of the shoulder straps are made once the child is supported in the PartialWeightBearing Walking Frame
  10. Once the child is standing, any or all of the compression straps can be added to aid alignment. These versatile straps can be used in the following ways:
    • Add straps horizontally around the top of the vest (over the shoulder straps to keep the shoulder straps vertically aligned & close to the user;s body. b. if you are using the SWI or SM/, use one (or two) straps as ahead rest by looping a compression strap around one rope, around the back of the child;s head, & around the other rope.
    • If you are using a Suspension Conversion Kit (SC 1,2,3,4) & posture walker, this can be done by looping around the shoulder webbing. c. Add straps from the front of one shoulder to the back of the other, crossing them in the back to aid thoracic extension
    • Add strap low around the back of the pelvis from one hip to the other to aid pelvic alignment & hip extension
    • Add a strap across the front of the pelvis pulling diagonally from one hip to the other to aid abdominal control
    • Add two straps vertically down the back of the vest from shoulder to hip to aid extension & alignment of the trunk
    • Add straps around the chest for additional postural control & a sense of security. Add straps from the hip on one side to the thigh cuff on that side to aid hip extension. Crossing these shaps aids extension in standing but may limit stride length
    • For larger children, place the straps down the sides under the webbing or buckles for comfort
    • This is only needed when the vest is opened so that the webbing or buckles are in contact with the child;s sides

  1. Unfasten the closures on one panel. Place vest around the user;s body with the back buckles in the center of the back. The two panels are identical-there is no front or back
  2. Adjust the 1; buckles, front & back, so that the 2" buckles for the thigh cuffs (see figure 1) are positioned symmetrically on the outside of each hip. This may take several tries, but this step is important
  3. The vest material can be stretched while fastening, giving some degree of compression around the user;s body
  4. Most importantly, the vest must fit snugly around the pelvis to distribute the weight load when the user is lifted. Pull these buckles tight so that you can fit only one finger under the side of the vest & the hip. If the vest is donned while sitting, the final adjustment will need to be made upon standing since a properly fitted vest will interfere with full hip flexion
  5. Snap the leg straps into the 2" buckles on the sides of the vest & adjust so that the thigh bands fit around the legs as high up around the thigh as possible. These straps help to hold the vest down around the trunk, so they must fit snugly around the thighs
  6. Adjust the shoulder straps, so they fit comfortably, yet snugly, over the user;s shoulders. To make certain these straps stay on the user;s shoulders, place the straps under webbing at the top of the harness and align the straps on the user;s shoulders. Once the user is placed in the Kaye PartialWeight-Bearing Walking Frame (models SWI or SM/), these straps can be tightened with the buckles on the front & the back of the harness (at pelvic level), taking up any slack. Compensation for flexible asymmetry of the user;s trunk is made by adjusting each shoulder strap separately, pulling up on either front or back as needed.
