Frequently Asked Questions
1. Can you sleep with a urinary leg bag?
As long as the bedside bag is above your bladder, you can sleep in any position. The urine bag should not be left on the floor.
2. What are urinary leg bags used for?
The urine that drains from your catheter is collected in a urinary leg bag. It is small enough to wear under your clothes and allows you to go about your daily routine.
3. Why do I feel the urge to pee with a catheter?
Urine may also come out around the catheter. Bladder spasms cause this, and you have no control over them. Make sure the catheter is not obstructed and is properly taped. Contact your doctor if the spasms persist.
4. How often should a catheter be flushed?
According to most institutional protocols,
Catheters should be flushed every 8 hours.
5. How do you wear a Hollister urine leg bag?
Attach the Hollister Urine Bag onto any part of your leg using the strap of your choice. To avoid pressure ulcers and discomfort, the valves and connector buttons are positioned to be away from your skin without even the slightest contact.

The straps may be comfortable, but the bag interior has nooks and crannies in the "corners" where urine, odors and GERMS collect. It takes filling it with peroxide and letting it sit for at least 24 hours to even start to degrade what gets caught inside. SERIOUS design flaw. It should be completely redesigned.

Get the combination pack so you have the wide straps , etc. Then you can just order the bag alone and use the same straps. I suggest half a paper towel between strap and leg at top of thigh where any chafing may occur. The whole thing is MUCH more comfortable than the standard one from the hospital with the little buttons on the small straps. You will be very glad you got this and it is not expensive.
