• Measure the perineal area between the labia majora and minora side-to-side and lengthwise, from the top of the labia minora past the vaginal opening (Folding the barrier paper and holding near the perineal area may help to judge what modifications need to be made in the opening)
• Trace the dimensions of the length and diameter onto the paper backing of the Female Urinary Pouch
• Cut the opening with blunt edge scissors

• Thoroughly wash and dry the perineal area
• Do not apply any skin prep, powder, lotion or ointment to area
• Trim excess hair on the labia and mons area
• Adhesive paste may be applied to the skin between the vaginal opening and the anus to assure a smooth surface for pouch application

• Close the capped end of the pouch
• Remove the paper backing from the adhesive side of the pouch
• With one hand, gently separate the labia majora from the minora, and with the other hand, apply the pouch adhesive side to the skin so the labia minora is centered in the opening
• Fold the adhesive barrier around the labia majora
• Hold the pouch in place by hand for about a minute (Warmth of hand and skin tissues helps activate the adhesive)
• Apply the paper tape strips to the edges of the pouch and the adjacent skin
• Uncap the pouch and attach tubing to a gravity drainage urine collector
