How to Use Hartmann Flexicol Dressing?

Application Instructions For Flexicol Dressing:

  • Select the correct size and shape of Hartmann Wound Dressing. The dressing should extend at least a half inch beyond the edge of the wound on all sides to ensure that it stays firmly in place.
  • Flexicol/Flexicol Thin: Remove the larger piece of the protective paper backing. Place FlexiCol on the wound holding the dressing by the portion still covered with a thin piece of protective paper backing. When the dressing is firmly in place, remove the remaining thin piece of protective backing paper and press all the edges of the dressing.
  • FlexiCol Sacral: Remove the protective paper backing and press the dressing into the gluteal fold. The tip of the dressing can point upwards or downwards depending on the position and depth of the ulcer. Press the edges firmly to adhere the dressing.
  • FlexiCol Concave for the heel and the elbow remove the largest part of the protective paper backing, place the middle part of the dressing over the wound, remove the rest of the protective paper backing, then overlap the wings to fit.
  • It should be changed when there is a visible discoloration of the dressing and a blister about the size of the wound forms in the center of the dressing.
  • To change the dressing, lift Hartmann Hydrocolloid dressing at the edges and remove the whole dressing carefully. A layer of hydrocolloid gel may remain on the wound which should not be confused with pus. It will not impair the healing of the wound and can be rinsed off it desired.
  • In uncomplicated wounds, hydrocolloid dressing can be left in place for intervals of up to 7 days or until the wound has completely healed.

Precautions While Using Flexicol Dressing:

  • FlexiCol Hydrocolloid Wound Dressing can only be effective when a holistic assessment of the patient and the wound has taken place. Treatment with Hartmann Dressing cannot replace treatment of the cause of the impaired healing.

General instructions:
  • Store between 41 degree F (5 degree C to 30 degree C). Contents sterile unless peel packs are damaged. Do not re-sterilize. Keep out of reach of children.
