How to clean Provox voice prosthesis?

Cleaning Provox Voice Prosthesis Using Provox Brush

1. Inspect the brush before each use to make sure it is not broken or worn out, and ensure it is clean.
2. Wet the brush with clean water.
3. Insert the brush into the middle of the voice prosthesis and move the brush back and forth a few times. Pull it back if you feel any resistance.
4. Twist the brush around a few times while moving it back and forth.
5. Remove the brush and clean it thoroughly.
6. Dry the brush after cleaning.

Cleaning Provox Vega Prosthesis Using Provox Flush

1. Start with brushing the voice prosthesis.
2. Place the tip of the flush into a cup of clean water, squeeze the bulb and then release to draw water into the bulb.
3. Place the tip of the flush into the middle of the voice prosthesis and ensure it is completely flat against the voice prosthesis.
4. Squeeze the bulb of the flush quickly to release the water with pressure.
5. Release the bulb so it re-inflates with air.
6. Remove the flush.

What to do if your voice prosthesis is leaking?

• Wash your hands with warm, soapy water for 20 seconds
• Position yourself in front of a well-lit mirror
• Clean your Provox voice prosthesis with a Provox Brush and/or a Provox Flush
• Take a sip of a coloured liquid, e.g. milk or coffee
• Look for liquid dripping through the center of the voice prosthesis
• Look for liquid dripping around the edges of the voice prosthesis
• You may need to take another sip to check again

Typical signs of your Voice Prosthesis Leaking

• Coughing during, or after, eating and drinking
• Fluid stained mucus
• Food stained mucus
• Increased mucus
• Recurrent chest infections
