Features of Amsure Suction Catheter

  • Opposing staggered eyelets reduce the risks of blockage
  • They are flexible and smooth, and the user experiences minimum pain while inserting
  • Suction catheters are specially designed to eliminate the secretions from the upper airway, trachea, and bronchi
  • This suction catheter is sterile

What is the Purpose of Suction Catheters?

  • Ventilators or Breathing Machines are often required for seriously injured and critically ill patients.
  • The respiratory therapist inserts a suction catheter into the breathing tube/ endotracheal tube/ tracheostomy tube to remove secretions that accumulate in the airway.
  • This keeps the airway clear of secretions and prevents blockage of the airways.
  • Suction tubes can also effectively prevent the development of pneumonia in patients that require ventilators.

What to buy with Amsino Suction Catheter

How to use Suction Catheters?

  • Wash your hands with soap and water.
  • Switch on the suction machine and connect a suction connection tubing to the main unit.
  • Connect a clean Amsure Suction Catheter to the suction connection tubing.
  • Ask the patient to lie flat on their back with a small towel rolled under their shoulders. Some patients may even try a sitting position if needed.
  • Wet the suction tube with distilled water for lubrication.
  • Carefully insert the catheter through the nose, tracheostomy tube, or endotracheal tube.
  • Keep on inserting it till it reaches the appropriate depth, and apply intermittent suction. Do not leave the catheter in place for more than 5-10 seconds, as the patient will not be able to breathe properly with the catheter.
  • Withdraw the catheter slowly in a twirling motion.
  • If you will be suctioning more than once, allow the patient to recover from the suctioning and catch their breath. Wait for at least 10 seconds.
  • After removal, suction a small amount of distilled water with the catheter to remove any residual debris or secretions.
  • Switch off the suction machine and discard the catheter.
