How to choose the right size for ByACRE Carbon Rollator?

  • Compact: The compact model is the smallest and most narrow model. It will fit smaller and narrow doorframes and small spaces. However, the seat may require a bit more flexibility to get into, since it has a smaller width between the handles. The width between handles: 35 cm.
  • Regular: The regular model is the perfect fit for when in between the other two models. It is slightly wider than the compact and less than the wide. It is our standard model that fits most people. The width between handles: 38 cm.
  • Wide: The wide model has a wider frame and wider seat, which makes it a bit more comfortable to sit in. However, the wide model won’t fit through quite as easily into as many doorways. The width between handles: 43 cm.

How to decide: Measure height, seat and hip width

  • Handle height:
    • The height of the rollator handles must be able to match the height of your wrists, measured when standing.
    • Measure the height from the floor up to your wrist and then compare it with the handle heights available on our rollators to see which ones might be compatible with you.
    • Since your arms will be at a slight angle forward as you grip the handles, we recommend adding one or two centimeters to your measured wrist height.
    • Remember to measure your height while wearing shoes as well if you plan to use your rollator outside.
    • Getting the correct handle height is important, as it enables you to walk upright and not be hunched over when using the rollator.
  • Seat height:
    • The seat height is not adjustable, but it differs between the compact and the regular/wide models.
    • The compact model seat height is 56 cm, while the regular and wide models are both at 61 cm.
    • The Carbon Overland has a seat height of 62 cm.
    • To find out which one that fits you best, try finding a chair in your home with a height close to our rollators. You can try raising its height by using books, pillows, or other fabrics.
    • It is important to easily be able to get in and out of the rollator seat, so try sitting in the chair you found and see if you’d be comfortable getting in and out of it frequently.
    • How much you tend to use the seat matters for your choice of model. If you rely on the seat for frequent rests, a wider seat will be a more comfortable option. If you won’t be sitting a lot and you are fine with doing a bit of salsa when getting in and out of the seat, then a slimmer model would be a good match.
  • Hip width:
    • When getting in and out of the seat, it is important that your hip width is less than the width between the handles on your rollator. You can still use your rollator even if it is a bit too narrow around the handles, but you may need to do a bit of salsa to get into the seat.
    • You should also consider whether you often wear thick coats (especially in the winter) or other things around your waist, as you would then need a bit extra space.

Other things to consider
Indoor vs Outdoor use: If you plan on using your rollator mostly inside, with chairs nearby and narrow walk-ways, a slimmer model is advisable, since it takes up less space and has a bigger marginal to fit through doors. If you are in doubt between two models, we recommend getting the wider option.

Height adjustment of the Carbon Rollator Handles

Due to ergonomically as well as safety reasons, it is important that the height of the handles is adjusted correctly. The correct adjustment of the handles is very individual. A rule of thumb is that the handles should be level with your wrist when standing in an upright position. If you are in doubt, consult your physical therapist, occupational therapist, or another specialist.

  1. Press the height adjustment button on the frame with one hand while pulling the handle with the other.
  2. Adjust the handle to the desired height and release the height adjustment button.
  3. Check that the handle is locked in a secure position by moving it up and down and that the height adjustment button is in the locked position.

How to use Brakes?

Carbon Ultralight is equipped with two independent brakes acting on the rear wheels.

  1. Pull the brake levers upwards to activate the brake. The lever moves back to the neutral position when the brake lever is released.
  2. The parking brake is activated by pressing the brake lever down until you hear a click sound. Release the parking brake by pulling the brake lever back to the neutral position.

Note:

  • Always engage both parking brakes when you sit on the seat.
  • Under normal circumstances, both brakes should be activated simultaneously.
  • Be aware that when only one brake is activated, Carbon Ultralight will turn to the same side as the engaged brake.
  • Do not store with the parking brake activated as prolonged activation of the parking brake can leave visible marks on the wheel and decrease the braking performance.

Adjustment of the Brakes

The brake should be adjusted if the brake force applied to the wheel is insufficient (this can occur if the tyres are worn) or the parking brake is difficult to activate (which is most often seen after the replacement of a worn-down tire). Always set the handle to the desired height before the brake is adjusted as the position may cause a little variation in the brake adjustment.

  1. Adjust the brake with a 2mm Allen wrench. Insert the Allen wrench into the adjustment screw through the hole in the front of the brake unit.
  2. The brake is tightened by turning the adjustment screw clockwise (viewed from the front) and loosened by turning the adjustment screw counter-clockwise (viewed from the front).

Using Kerb Lifter of Rollator?

It is equipped with a kerb lifter that makes it easier to get over smaller obstacles like kerbs and low steps. This is particularly helpful if heavy objects are transported in a front-mounted basket or bag.

  1. Carefully press on the kerb lifter with a foot.
  2. Pull slightly by the handles to lift the front wheels off the ground. Be aware that the stability of the Carbon Ultralight changes when it is reclined. Be cautious and try to bypass rather than climb high obstacles.
